JANE ROOSE

Jane Roose is a professional artist based in Falmouth, Cornwall. Jane paints in the colourist tradition of Cornish impressionists but her work is distinctly bold and expressive. As the artist describes; “My style often pushes the boundaries of representation, colour and form. I paint with colour and texture to provoke an emotional response from the viewer.”

Jane’s works are mainly oil on board – carefully prepared with gesso and marble powder. The artist deploys a combination of brush and palette knives to achieve her bold expressions of Cornwall’s coast and landscapes with contrasting textures and an exuberant palette.

Jane is originally from Derbyshire, where, as a professional painter, she exhibited regularly. Her move to Cornwall in 2000 heralded a new period of inspiration and fresh subject matter for the artist.

In Jane Roose’s paintings of cliffs and bays we see a real empathy with the Cornish landscape and the sense of wonder, but also affection, that it inspires in the artist.
