Eleanor Hughes was born in New Zealand but trained in Britain, most notably under Stanhope Forbes. She moved from Newlyn to Lamorna setting up a studio there within the small colony that included her close friend, Laura Knight. Eleanor was renowned for her sensitive, carefully executed watercolours of the woods in Lamorna valley and surrounding landscape and coast. 'Riverbank' is as fresh and vibrant in colour as the day it left Eleanor Hughes Lamorna studio.
