Employing a mixture of media in a single artwork has become an increasingly popular approach for Cornish artists. A common combination has for a long time been watercolour and bodycolour/gouache but Cornish artists are incredibly resourceful and since the early C20 Constructivists, like Naum Gabo, they've been deploying the materials they find around them in the creation of their artworks.  Margaret Mellis gathered large quantities of drift wood which she repurposed in her many artwork constructions and contemporaneously, Kurt Jackson is renowned for incorporating materials sourced in situ, like pieces of fishing nets or simply the sand upon which he has placed his canvas, as a quite literal expression of his subject on canvas. 

Contemporary Cornish Artists are continuing to explore how they can combine mediums and repurpose materials in the creation of their art. Given the environmental and climate crises, this approach has more even resonance today.
